In principle every turtle needs hibernation.
Hibernation is perhaps the wrong word – rest period might fit better !!!
Rest periods are dependent on the origin area quite different. In temperature zones, a rest period can be spent with 2-6°C, as well as with 10-15°C resting or it can be spent actively. That depends on the breed thus inform yourself prematurely. A view of a climate map from the respective circulation areas allows new awareness.
In subtropical and even more in tropical areas as well a heat period can be overcome with resting, while the animals bury itself on riverbanks or in the soil of sumps. Waters may drain partly or completely. Only by starting of the rains these "quiescent accommodations" are flooded again and the animals can awake to new life.
Conclusion:
It is important for the animals to simulate a seasonal cycle, depending upon origin !
