Incubation

back to overview

For a successful incubation, the turtle eggs must be excavated and incubated (produced) in an incubator.

With large technical expenditure it is also possible to leave the eggs in the soil. Then the risk exists that the clutches of eggs can be destroyed with grave activities of the same or further females.

For a successful incubation it needs specifically adequate temperatures, variations in temperature and air humidity.

The eggs may not be turned any more after a certain time, since the seedling could turn below the yolk and suffocate.

Depending of the kind, the method varies to incubate males or females. Until now it was the opinion that the sexes are only decided by the temperature. With cooler incubation temperatures there are males, with warmer females.

However, there are some specialists with the opinion that with different kinds also a genetic sex differentiation would be possible. Personally I can supply no further information in addition.
