Water Turtles
Mostly, the water of aquariums will be renewed by tap water. This water has a certain hardness, which is measured in degrees of hardness. This hardness results from the fact that falling rain water enriches itself with environmental poisons from the atmosphere such as CO2. The rain water seeped in the soil washes most diverse minerals from the layers of the rock formations until it reaches a water impermeable layer where it accumulates to a groundwater lake.
Depending on how long the water keeps staying there, it results in a different hardness. The pH value gives information whether the water is sourly, neutral or basic. The scale of the pH value reaches from 0 to 14, whereby the value 7 is defined as neutral. There are fish and plants, which prefer it easily basic, in addition to others, which prefer easily sour water. It is assumed that the neutral range fits best.
Water should not be exchanged completely. Renewing just a part of the water instead keeps a part of the important micro organisms in the water.
The care of water turtles is a little easier, since fish react more sensitive to the water quality. For this reason we added groups of tooth carps as water indicators. If the fish are doing well, it is not a problem for turtles.
